i guess it takes forever for frets to wear out, some people have guitars for tens of years, and the frets are as good as ever, so i wouldnt worry about fret wearage unless your guitar isn't up to standards.

It depends on the frets, strings, ammount of playing that is done, and how well you take care of the guitar. I have a guitar that is over 35 years old and the frets are in very good condition for it being that old. When your frets are flat under the strings, it's a good idea to get new ones. But it will still play even if they are flattened down. If your guitar isn't very old I wouldn't worry about it. Just keeping the frets and fretboard clean are all you gotta do to it.

hey guys thanks alot for the feedback
I've heard that "Stainless Steel" strings wear down frets faster than other types like pure nickel and various "wound" string types.
If you use stainless steel strings, try out pure nickel strings. They sound better (my opinion) and are waa more gentle to your frets :)
But basically, it actually takes ages to wear down the frets if you don't do anything stupid.
If the frets are too flat, you might get a fret shaping tool (dunno the correct word in English) with which you can restore the original fret form again i.e make the fret round again.

Be sure and change your strings regularly. Old strings are like sandpaper against your frets. If you play with old corroded string, fret wear can be quick.
