Hey everyone.
I found this in the electric guitar intro for Fade To Black by Metallica:
Right, now this: '6/7' means slide from 6th to 7th fret, i know how to do this,
but how do you do a slide like this: /7?
A slide from nowhere? or is it a random fret?
The tab reads:
B |----------------7|
G |--------------7--|
D |-----------/9----|
(It's the very first note that the electric guitar plays)
Thanks everyone! :)

Well actually it's more about that the slide has to be heard than from which note you slide in. It's probably a quite fast slide (I don't know the songs though) so it doesn't make much difference from where you slide.

just imitate how it sounds on the CD and slide from the approximate location you're hearing until you get it to sound like on the CD
you should be able to imitate the sound and feel of it if you listen to it closely

I agree -- it's a 'feel' thing, some may require you coming in from 5-6 frets and others may be 1 or 2.
Trust your ears - a lot of players get too concerned with being precise. Don't make it harder than it needs to be -- go with your gut and trust what you hear.

it means that you dont want to hold a note for the beginning of the slide.
Basically your left hand is already moving and has momentum up or down the neck of the guitar (up in your case) when you pluck the string.

If the slide is in the lower frets of the guitar, i just place my finger on the nut and slide up. It works kind of well on slower solors like Wish You Were Here.

that means that you can start sliding from anywhere in the lower notes/frets, important thing is the timing...
its an approx thing.. you gotta hear about where he slides from and then if your one half step off or something it probably doesnt make too much of a difference but get as close as possible
i can play that part and i play it from around the 6th fret.. if you listen to the song you can hear its around there
