I think that it was "The saints go marching in"..... pretty basic song. Although maybe "Ode to joy" might be my first song I learned.

This may sound funny, but I always classify "mary had a little lamb" under my first song, and hardest song to play. People always get a laugh out of that, but it's true.. at that time my left and right hand were in no way synchronized.. it was a "look at left hand get finger on note, look at right, pluck the string.. repeat until songs over.. "

The first song I could play was twinkle twinkle little star. I thought I was bad ass when I could play it with my eyes closed lol.

The first song on the radio I could play was Glycerine (I can play it, but I don't think I can spell it :) ). Even today girls always tell me to play that song... I now hate that song.

hmmmm well....
i have to admit most songs i know i am missing some small portion of to almost all of them...i guess the most complete i know any song would be...

"the freshmen" by the verve pipe

it really wasnt the first song i ever tried...it was just the first one i actually battled my way thru...now most of it i play pretty much automatically if you know what i mean....

Romanza D'amour... Heard it, loved the melody, didn't have the music so I had to figure it out by ear. Haven't had to chance to get sick of it yet!

I can't really say what my very first song was, because at the beginning I played several easy "songs for children" where you just have to strum a few chords and fingerpick a bit.

But the first song where I was really proud to be able to play it, was "Nothing else matters" by Metallica (ok ... except the solo ... but the rest goes fluently).I taught it myself after playing acoustic for about 8 month and I still play it today. Brings me a lot of respect by my classmates ;)

On guitar: First really serious song was "Samba Pa Ti" by Santana.

On keyboards: As a kid, "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious." As a teenager, mostly songs I wrote (and they were quite good, actually). As an adult, "Music Box Dancer" by Frank Mills, and Jon Cain's keyboards on "Who's Crying Now" by Journey.

On saxophone: "High Roller" by David Sanborn.

I leaned to play music on a 14 sting, seven pedal hawiian steel guitar. I can't spell the name of the song but it's something like
Uka noi Kalona Po.
A Hawiian song.

First song on an normal git was Memphis by Lonnie Mack.

The first song that i learned all the way through was Blink 182 - All The Small Things. It is so easy now. Its kinda sad how easy every Blink song is to play.

When I got my first guitar my dad tought me this fingerpicking part of a song by bread. Don't know the name because I've never heard it and he taught me just that one part.

mjamer - same here, 'cept I was foolin' around on a piano
kitara - that's a cool song, wish I could play that one (solo and all)
the tongue - that's a cool intro
fatstrat - what do you expect from three guys who picked up their instruments and started bitching 'bout how some chick left 'em and **** like that?

Not counting the cheap songs in my guitar book, my first song was Peace by Jennifer Knapp--well, the verses and chorus, not the intro (she can pick a whole heck of a lot better than I can and that intro shows it off! :D). I play it an octave higher too, but that because I'm better at the notes on the G string, B string, and high E string. Sadly, that's still one of the only songs I can play (even though I just learned Trinity by her, and I'm working on His Grace is Sufficient by her), but I guess that's ok since I learned that song within 2 weeks of getting my guitar. I need a teacher :D

Iron Man, first, Paranoid 2nd, and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 3rd are the first songs i learned (in that order). i know all 3 of them backwards, forwards, inside out.

"For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica, the only reason I learned to play the whole song inside and out in the first place was because, its one of the few metallica songs that have no REALLY COMPLICATED solos, and was easier to learn for someone who did not have the technique yet like i didnt.

mine was "wading in the velvet sea "by phish easy chord changes and great practice song.

G D E C D than over again. listen to song to get timing but its a cool tune to warm those fingers up.

well the first song I started learning was enter sandman, but I thought it was too hard, so I moved onto Nothing Else Matters. It took me about 1 year to learn it perfect. Then it took me about 1 - 2 months to learn the solo. That was the first solo I learned. During that first year tho, I also learned the intro riff to Master Of Puppets, the intro and lead to The Unforgiven (not solo), most of Enter Sandman, and sum other crap songs that I don't like nemore =]

I didn't think anyone would've heard of Wash =] They're a new zealand christian band. And yep, P.O.D. are a christian band. Their name stands for Parable Of Death.

Chickwithapick
12-12-2001, 09:27 PM

hey chickwithapick!

i am the very same musiclover from the alabaster boards. yeah. i'm not a knappster though, i'm a supertones site mite.

P.O.D. is a christian band, it does stand for Payable on Death. which is a creative way of saying when they die, they're going to Heaven because they're all paid for.

ahhh, I thought I heard someone say Parable on death =[[[
Oh well

Yeh, I don't like Alive, the tracks sound unclean, and the vocals, are very monotonous in range.

Heeey musiclover!! This is COWgirl14 from the Alabaster board, but I'm not on there as much cuz I'm a lil Knappster junkie, so I'm on the jk board. But I still go there, cuz Steven Thomas is the man! :D Cool to see ya on here!

Yeah, the reason I like Alive, is cuz you actually understand the words hehe!

Bach - Toccata and Fugue In D Minor

The first and only song I know frontwards, backwards, inside out, and upside down (not literally, but you get the idea). "Why such a hard song?" you ask. Exactly the reason :).
