Wat's the difference between playing over a chord and soloing over a chord vamp?

as far as I know, you can't change our username
and the difference between the vamp and the chord is that the vamp is in a specific key, so you'd use the key that the music was written in, (usually) or like use modes etc.

a vamp is just a chord in a chord proggression which is played over and over again (I'm pretty sure thats what it is)
either that or its a chord in a key which is played over and over again, sort of used as maybe a transition from 2 different chord progressions.
but either way its a chord repeated
