can someone please explain to me why most kids my age (around 14) all listen to bands like Blink 182 and good charlotte? if any of you bass players out there listen to them can you please tell me why. all their bass lines are, are 1 note over and over again. as bass players i'd think you'd recognize the sheer lack of tallent... also if you dont like these bands but have a good answer anyway i'd like to hear it since i've been wondering about htis for a while now.

Question 1... they listen to that stuff because redord comapnies tell them to... THERE ARE alot of punk bands that do have talent that some of the kids listen to but alot of these kids just say oo look he likes it so i must too

Question 2 no talent.. alot of these bands have no talent the just make money... again there are some punk bands out there with talent i think we have to seperate the two groups into like.. Punk and pop punk..

pop punk is the carp you seem not to like... blink.. good charlete.. simple plan all those fruits and i dont blame you

there are alot of punk bands those under ground who arent big that play for the music and the feeling of the music

ya i'm speaking jsut about the mtv punk stuff. underground punk and old old punk is great. not my favorite stuff but i definatly respect them for their tallent as musicians. what i dont understand is what people who play instruments find apealing in this sort of crap. i mean almost anyone who picks up a bass can do what they are doing. but still they idolize these bands and try to convice me they are so tallented and i just dont see it. what is good about these bands?

It appeals to the preppy kids, they never had a hard life, the worst thing that ever happened to them was getting dumped. So that's what these bands write about.

Thats is exactly it pop....

There are some punk bands that are quite exceptional actually. But some of them are just some idiots who know about 6 chords, and can only sing lyrics witten by the record companies.

I wouldn't say nothing...
travis from blink 182 is an amazing drummer
granted thats not much but it is something

also i agree that if you dont like punk you're listening to the wrong stuff.

matt from rancid is pretty damn good bassist

Classic punk can be pretty simple also, but there is so much more substance and emotion in that stuff. The current whiny "punks" with makeup on are just an embarrassment. I don't even consider them to be punks. I think Nirvana was the last real punk band.

I got a little bit excited when I first saw this thread, I thought abaddon might have started posting here again.

As for Nirvana being a punk band,

I didn't realize someone had revived a year and a half old thread. Nirvana carried the essence of punk without the silly costumes and the bad immitation of Rotten's or Strummer's accent. Even acoustic.

ok, i have played in my share of punk bands, and i will admit, it was good fun. We had dodgy lyrics, 3 or 4 chord songs, and an out of time drum machine (well, alright, he was a person, but it was hard to tell).

And, it's fun for people to just put out noise. Ever walked up to a NICE grand piano and played aa A minor, in every register, just to feel the vibrations?

But yeah, some of the members of these bands are REALLY talented (i realise i should be shot for that), but some decide that punk is for them, others realise that thats where the money is, and others just can't think enough to realise that there is more to music than distortion, and root noting bass.

People (by which i mean "Foolish mortals") seem to like this music cause it's a loud, in your face complete lack of subtle implications, like alot of their lives (sorry, that was a bit harsh). Others like it because they have yet to mature their musical taste, and discover the beautifull sounds of Tool, Deftones, Victor Wooten, hell, even the Beatles (by the way, i actually like them).

but hey, don't worry man, for every one like them, that likes it, their will be some one like me, with dreams of slaughtering them with me almighty bass of mass destruction!!!!!

Hope i raved well
