What kind of bands?

What kinds of bands are most popular around where you live? I ask because most (well, until my band gets off the ground, all) of the bands in my high school are punk bands- it's not even good punk, it's whiny power-chord thrashing punk that all sounds the same unless you listen carefully- and i was just wondering if punk is really that popular, or if it's just where I live.

Well in New Zealand, most of the people are into pop and stuff like that, oh and dance (trance, house, techno). I myself am no into those forms of music

round my are it's pop and dance but lately every 12yr old for miles has been buying LP, PR and slipknot hoodies and calling themselves metal fans which kinda anoys me since they all did the same thing a few years ago with nirvana but still went back to mindless pop.

yeah all the bands in my college (except mine - a blues rock/funk band) are knocking out crappy powerchord-only ****ty metal stuff

hmmm well....i live in the boonies so around these parts they like country (ugh)...
so of course...i travel to the nearest "city" (not all the way to chicago but to larger towns outside of it) to hear something decent...lol
i like everything really....with the exception of rap and country...which for me both are barely tolerable...
we go to alot of restaurant/bars on fridays and saturdays and hear alot of local bands...and it seems to me the ones who do the best are the ones who play classic rock and blues...there is really only one band that im aware of in our area which is made of young people playing more current music that can fill a restaurant...and i mean literally fill it...you cant get a seat...so i didnt get to hear them....but i hope to some day...

anyways...classic rock and blues seems to rule the stage around here.....

Same as smfulla and Zaknafien,pop,dance and trance,and now its cool to like limpbizkit and the such.:rolleyes: you can pick out the people who are into Metal,rock,etc.
plus its a small country:D

Lots of people around here like new alternative stuff like creed, linkin park, and tool. Then there is another group at my school that likes punk. Other people listen to rap and pop stuff. I listen to classic rock. It's a mix here, but punk is becoming more and more popular.. new found glory type punk, not the good stuff.

Well here in Austria a lot of people is into pop, just the top 50 mainstream (Britney Spears... DJ Otzi, yuck!). There are some people into hip-hop and quite many people listen to Nu-Metal (Linkin' Park) and New-Rock (Godsmack, Nickelback). They seem to have no idea about any band older than Nirvana (maybe exept Metalica, but I once asked my class whether they knew Master Of Puppets and 22 of 24 people didn't :( ) In my opinion Austrians are extremly un-rockish (hope you get what I mean), but hey, maybe I just don't know the right people.

Hiphop - that's what most of the people here seem to go in for (at least according to lots of people at my school). And rock seems to have a little comeback (but Germany still seems to be almost as rockish as Austria:))
Drum'n'Bass is also quite popular ...

Anyone heard of garage?(nothing to do with cars). Well, thats what people seem to like where I live(Leicester).
I'm sure some of them don't even know what a guitar is.

But most of the school/ college band play punk music, mainly cos its easy and the singers can get away with just shouting.

1) I have to admit that I do not know "garage".

2) Where I live, there's a strong divertion between what boys and girls like to listen to. The boys like HipHop, Rap and that type of music most, whereas the girls prefer R&B, mainstream pop and the such.

rap is popular around where I live, but the one thing I do is mainly DESPISE IT!

lol i live in virginia..and there's realy only 2 kinds that people play around here.....death metal and blue grass....nice touch eh?
punk is probably around the 4-5 most popular kinda jammin..

like... rock...pop...alternitive...punk..contemporay..clas sicle...christian..
