Should I copyright?
I finished a tune on Christmas of 2010 and had uploaded it to the net. It is my first real piece I had done to completion and published online.
I don't mind if anyone copies, plays my tune in public in say a band in a public venue, my only concern is someone taking the credit for it. It may not be likely that this may ever happen in my case and maybe I'm being a bit paranoid about this?
I would be willing to dish out the fee for copyrighting my tune but is it really of any benefit? People have referred me to what is known as the "poor mans method" which is mailing contents to yourself in a sealed envelope and upon returning of package you do not open it.
There are some problems with this though:
1. PMC is not upheld in U.S. courts.
2. The creation date would be much later, on the dated package, than the actual creation date for the published works.
I didn't put any copyright notice in the video so it is too late to correct for this and I can't delete the video because it is all ready there with user comments and likes. I could post a notice in the text description of the video though.
I have a bad vision of someday seeing that my tune was removed due to copyright violation yet it is my music piece. Should I be concerned?
