the "i su*k phase"

i'm in it right now.......did it ever happened to you??....god i hate that phase , you know the technics , you have a good idea of what you want to sound like and then you start playing.....after two minutes , you stop and say to yourself.....god i suck!......(you dont suck , you've hit a blank spot , you forgot every thing you've learn in the past 15 years) ...you want to sell everything and buy new gear........lollllll....you hate your bass , your amp , effect pedal , your car , your cat , even the sound of a bass...it's a tuff time to get thru.....
my solution to this problem (cuz it happened to me like 565472145 times) is
no bass , no vic wooten , mark king , no jaco , no stan clarke for a week...if someone ask you if you play music , you say : yes i play music i hit a stick on to a wooden piece of wood and it sounds like this : toc toc toc toc.......................................toc..... ..toc..
after that week as gone by...your head will be cleared....and you will be ok...you hope....but dont think about it.....god i suck.

Great, you're half way there! Where, did you ask?

Half way to knowing you suck and halfway to trying to figure out how to get better.

Identify your weaknesses and concentrate (practice) on getting them better.

I think you really should get together with some other players to trade info and jam. That would help your playing ability and confidence immensely.

yep you're right.....exept that all of my friends are in bands , and the only thing they play is BLCK SABBATH....so no chance in hell we'll play together soon...lolllll (i like sabbath , but it's a different story when my friends play)

so considering the fact that they dont know who the hell are WOOTEN , KING ,CLARKE , UZEB .....we rarely play together......on time the drummer learned TOMMY THE CAT from primus ....i steped in
it was fun!!AND SHORT ....cuz they are not into slap bass at ALL.

now the drum-dude i have......AWSOME.. he's into the same thing as me (musicly) plus he has that NEIL PEART influance. he's good.

dont let other people's interests and influences shy you away from jamming with them. now, if its totally one dimensional and they refuse to even attempt something outside the genre they like, then thats a different story, but some of the best stuff can come from a combination of influences from each person, and its not necessarily good to have everyone influence by vic, jaco, and peart(though they all kick ass)

Like Sam said...jam with them anyway. The point is to get some playing and learning under your belt.

Forget about influences...you're supposed to be learning, not emulating at this point.

That's the funniest frieking thing I think I've read on here to date.

Yea, I've been there too. A million times. Taking a week off usually breaks my ruts...and that first time I hit my distortion pedal, my amp sounds better to me than it has for months. I think that happens to everybody.

i am sam

yep you're right.....but to them...every thing outside sabbath and led zepplin is crap....so......i dont mind jaming with them....but....i have my limits of staireway to heaven.....

they are good friends of mine even the bass player (who looks at me in a strange way...like i'm there to steal is band) but musicly.....it's another thing

this music "war" between us is not serious , we all see it as a joke it all good

like i said , i found a drummer with the same taste in music as me , so the drum and bass is tight!
